(More customer reviews)OK, I will admit when I first saw this switch advertised for $27, I was really skeptical, in fact, I was pretty sure it was junk.
First a little background. I have a 5 yr/old Panasonic 60" LCD flat screen, which only has 1 HDMI input. It was OK at the time, but now my cable box is HD, I have a blu-ray dvd player, and a PS3 which can output a HD signal. A new tv is not in the budget so I started the search for a HDMI switch.
I purchased this 3 to 1 switch as a Amazon bundle with a blu-ray player. The bundle included the switch, a 2' hdmi cable, and a Toslink cable for $24 extra. I know, I know, $24 spells junk; but I added it anyway. I have not used either of the cables because I didn't need them. (Still not convinced of the quality of a 2' HDMI cable for $ .89 !!!!!)
The switch is Chinese made, comes in a generic white box, with a ir remote control, remote receiver and the switch. The switch has 3 inputs and one output. If you have a device that always outputs a signal, such as a cable box, plug it into port #2 or #3. A dvd or video game could be plugged into #1. The switch senses the active signal and uses that port. If the device connected to port 1 isn't active, it tries port 2 then 3.
I was concerned about losing signal quality by going through such a low price switch, but no worries. Picture is the same as a straight connection! No loss! Sound portion of my signal passes through a home theater system, so can't comment on that.
One note: when I opened the generic box, I was concerned that it contained no power supply. A look at the switch showed a +5 volt input connection. I thought that I had indeed been duped. No external power is required for this switch. Not sure why there is a connection for power, unless this box is used for another model, perhaps an HDMI amplifier.
Long story short - this seems to be a good, input sensing switch or manually selected switch (using remote) at an extremely good price. I will edit this later if I have any problems.
