I use it to connect the headphone output jack of my laptop computer to my A/V receiver.In this way, I can play anything on the computer on my home theater system.Of course you can also use this to connect your mp3 player to the home theater, and you can even use it to connect most phones to the home theater.Double check on this last item, however - some phones like my Treo require a 2.5 mm jack, rather than the standard 3.5 mm jack.
