(More customer reviews)Socket Cordless Serial Adapter is supposed to be a serial cable replacement using Bluetooth as a transport layer.The included software is quite easy to understand but when I connected the CSA to the periferial device and mated with the PC it didn't work. The BT-link time out in less than one minute if there is no communication (my serial cabe didn't include this feature). I get two virtual serial ports on my PC. One for Tx and another for Rx (my serial cable didn't do this either). My problems is likely to be caused by the BT driver on my PC which is not supplied with the Socket CSA. Perhaps if they would have supplied this driver it could have worked as intended? The support team of Socket gave me many good advises like reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling the drivers again, ... :-(

The hardware of the Socket CSA is equipped with a D-sub 9p female connector and most serial periferial devices are also female so a null modem is generally needed. This effecively eliminates a small and unvisible installation. The supplied null modem doesn't include a pin 9 (ring indicator) connection. This is used by the Serial CSA for optional power and in my opinion the included null modem should have had this feature as well or preferably the Socket CSA should have been equipped with a male connector.

The PC this was tested on is a IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T43 with Windows XP. I tried many different speeds but mostly 9600 bps.
