(More customer reviews)For some reason the mic jack in my laptop stopped working. When I received this Star Tech 7.1 usb device I discovered the mic jack in the unit is for a mic that is already digital. This device does not convert analog input to digital, and I think the product description should state that for those of us who don't understand this yet.
I gave this unit a four star rating because the stereo sound from it sounded the same to me (through headphones) as it does from the headphone jack in my laptop. If the sound is out in your sound card, this device will do a good job replacing that function, and set up and use went just fine otherwise.
I've sent the unit back, but the price was the lowest around, and have had good experience so far with both Amazon and HDE.
