I bought this item to use with my Mac mini. Sometimes I have it connected to an LCD monitor via VGA and sometimes I connect it to my digital video projector via DVI (but never both).

If there is anything plugged into the VGA port on the splitter, the DVI port shuts off, regardless of whether the VGA device is on or off (or even plugged in). As soon as the VGA device is disconnected, the DVI works.

Not optimal, but unplugging the VGA cable is easier than repeatedly unplugging cables from the DVI port on the back of the Mac.

Product Description:
This splitter cable is for splitting 1 DVI signal to 1 VGA and 1 DVI.PLEASE BE AWARE: A DVI-I connector found on most video graphics cards are capable out outputing either a digital (DVI-D) or analog (VGA) signal though the common DVI-I port, however, they can not output both types of signals simultaneously. Therefore, you can not use this splitter to connect to both a DVI-D digital monitor and VGA analog monitor at the same time.
